Readily sited as one of Carpi's better dining rooms, Da Giorgio has been a town fixture since 1948 within a casual dining room along the Via Roma overlooking the Marina Piccola. Retaining much of its original look, guests enter a homey arched doorway of smooth white stucco leading down a narrow corridor where a hostess inquires of reservation. Through a long hallway is a series of smaller parlor rooms with wine cellar and small bar leading to the main dining room trimmed in wide, open panes of glass overlooking a grand vista. Not big on glamour, the space is decorated in simple bentwood bistro chairs and cheery tabletops trimmed in white tablecloths. Outside, a garden terrace offers the best summertime seating under a canvas awning trimmed in fig ivy.
The Food
It’s one of the island’s top non-Michelin rated kitchens offering family-style kitchen of island specialties in a setting that’s refreshingly un-touristy even in high season. Meals begin with grilled and fried seafood dishes as well as thinly sliced carpaccios and unimpressive selection of salads. Pasta is unrivaled with linguine with redfish sauce and scialatielli with prawns as well as a top-notch Bolognese ragu. Best known for its pizza over, don’t miss-out of the selection of pizzas offering a crust of wafer-like delicateness that’s as good an entree as the white fish with artichoke and mixed grill plates.
